What is the purpose of using shaving cream or gel?

I've used it a few times, but I don't see a difference when I have used it, against when I have used only water and blade. What is the purpose of using shaving cream or gel?
it lubricates %26amp; moisturizes the skin while shaving. cheers! What is the purpose of using shaving cream or gel?
For ***** sake Jim, use a good shaving cream or gel. NOT WATER

Preferrably one with no animal testing such as ';King of Shaves.';
It works better than whipped cream or jelly, and doesn't have nearly as many calories. They all reduce the skin irritation of shaving.
It keeps the multi-nationals financially buoyant.

Warm face, warm water, a cake of soap and a sharp razer ..... works pretty well without shaving gel.
It's to reduce the irritation of the blade across the skin! If I don't use it, I get razor burn- not very comfortable! You're pretty lucky!
So your skin won't burn.
It won't hurt and your skin won't have scratches.
Then you will save a few pence, lucky you.
It softens the hair thus making it easier to cut.
The purpose is to pay a company so they can profit from you, as apposed to you knowing how to shave.

So.

1. Wash your face with water.

2. Use soap and rinse that face up.

3. Wash it off.

4. Use soap and do it again.

5. Shave

See it cost me nothing and i have been shaving for 30 years.
using simple blade %26amp; water gives fine look.

But doesn't penetrate your tissues.

And after longer use your skin will become dark and ruff.

Better to use good gel it soften the hair and skin cells and injectulate freshness.

However if wan avoid, must use skin moistoriser after shaving with only blade %26amp; water.
Generally shaving creams/gels add a moisturizer to your skin although you wash it off. Also, shave creams soften the hair, making it easier and less painful to shave. Just using water and a razor will work, but can dry out your skin and cause you to break out.
